Yesterday the roads were quiet, the beaches empty on the East End of Long Island. The weather was sunny and in the 40s, daffodils and bright yellow forsythia are in bloom, and grape buds were swelling.  It was a lovely afternoon for wine and cheese.

Cabernet Franc and Snacks for this Week's Sports Events

Great choices: the NCAA Championships or Paris-Roubaix. Both are coming up this week. (Paris-Roubaix is an ultra-tough pro cycling race through cobblestone roads, and the scene of a classic movie, “A Sunday in Hell,” 1976.) Either way,  I like to watch them with a glass of wine and a bowl of snacks. That way I feel as if I’m in a box seat.

Launching Bouquet Cabernet Franc

We are very excited to be launching a new wine, Bouquet Cabernet Franc, from the superlative 2010 vintage. Medium-bodied and oaked, with fine soft tannins and balanced acidity. Aromas of cherries, back currants, raspberries, licorice and herbs. Very appealing with mild hard cheeses, Mexican, Italian, brasserie French and grilled food.

Wine Tasting on Shelter Island

At Kyle’s on Shelter Island a four-course dinner with paired sparkling wine will be served on Saturday night, with Eileen Duffy, Deputy Editor of Edible East End guiding the wine tasting. First Course Hoisin seared bay scallops/ Bouké Perlant 2009. Second Course Truffle parmesan risotto/Lieb Blanc de Blanc 2007. Third Course Roasted duck breast with Port wine cherry jus over local greens/ Sparkling Pointe Brut Seduction 2001. Fourth Course Chocolate mousse profiteroles with hazelnut whipped cream/Lenz Blanc de Noir 2005.
